Who’s the Best Zed?

When screenwriters name a character Zed, they certainly want him to be a memorable character (Tarantino did it twice). While they have certainly failed with some of these characters, for the most part, they’ve succeeded in creating a group of characters who have this name in common (which, um, could work for any name). So let’s ask the question that’s been burning in our collective thoughts. Who’s the best Zed? VOTE AT THE BOTTOM.

Hint: Vote for Bobcat.

1

Men in Black (1997)
Rip Torn

Rip Torn is one of those actors that is memorable only because he’s being played by… Rip Torn. The fact that his name is Zed is secondary. (Editor’s note: He’s Zed because he’s ‘Z’ like Smith and Jones are ‘J’ and ‘K’… get it?)

2

Police Academy 2, 3 and 4 (85′, 86′, 87′)
Bobcat Goldthwait

3

Battlestar Galactica (1978)
Frank Parker

I’ll bet my balls that this guy won’t win the vote.

4

Pulp Fiction (1994)
Peter Greene

Here’s Zed’s best scene in Pulp Fiction.

5

Killing Zoe (1993)
Eric Stoltz

Check out the video on Youtube.

6

Zardoz (1974)
Sean Connery

Yes, that’s Sean Connery, not Borat. My film teacher in college was obsessed with this movie and made us watch it for two different classes (one about John Boorman). He said only ‘smart’ people get it, while most people think it’s awful.

7

Californication (2007)
Paul Rae

A biker named Zed.

8

Year One (2009)
Jack Black

I have an unhealthy obsession with Muppets, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. I take out my frustrations on people on the hockey rink using traditional Korean martial arts. I'm prejudiced against hipsters.
